Hello [NAME],

Many parents have requested additional information on what to expect for this fall season. Hopefully this letter will answer many of your questions or concerns. If you need further information please feel free to contact Kevin Russom for 5/6 year olds, Mark Sickles for 7/8 year olds, Shawn Spradling for 9/10 year olds, Rhonda Spates for all softball levels, or Bill Santschi for 11-14 year olds - their e-mail addresses are available on the CPYL website (www.cpyl.org) under the Contact Us/Board Member tab.

Key dates: These are all on the calendar located on the CPYL website under the Events tab
•    8/8 - Park maintenance day - all coaches are required to participate and we encourage ALL parents to come help out from 8-4:00 as well.
•    8/15 – Skills assessment for all levels - this is for non-protected baseball players ONLY (first come first serve basis). 6-10U (9-12:00). 11-14U (10-12:00). No skills assessment for softball.
•    8/16 – Team draft day - (for team managers only). Teams may start practicing the next day.
•    8/22 - Manager, assistant coach mandatory certification training.
•    8/27 - Manager, assistant coach mandatory certification training- make up.
•    8/29-30 - Pre-season tournament.
•    8/31 – Opening day (first game of season).
•    10/3-4  – Fall Classic tournament/Fall Fest.
•    10/26 – Beginning of post season tournament.
•    11/1 – Early online registration opens for the Spring 2010 season.

What to expect for the fall season:
•    1 game per week - weeknights only except for 2 Saturdays during the season (9/12 & 10/24) and the post-season tournament.  We start the first games at 6:00 during the week and generally play two games per night on each field. The pre-season and Fall Classic are optional tournaments and are not included in your registration. If we need to make up games due to rain we may also need to play on Saturdays or schedule a second game for the week to do so.
•    1-3 practices per week. The amount, length, times, and site of your team practices are entirely up to your manager. Each coach varies on these details and CPYL leaves the decisions to the manager’s discretion.
•    Each team will be assigned at least 1 concession stand volunteer duty (6-8 parents) for a 2-hour time slot.  There may be a case where some teams are given 2 concession duties based on the number of teams and slots that need to be covered.
•    CPYL holds monthly board meetings and all parents are invited to attend. Check the calendar on the league website for dates and times.
•    The skills assessment will be on a first come first serve basis. The players will need to check in    at the registration tables and then get in line at their field for their turn. We will take them 5 at a time and run them through hitting (3 swings) and fielding drills (2 grounders and 2 fly balls).

We would encourage you all to visit the CPYL website as much as possible as it contains a wealth of information and many questions you may have might be answered there. We try to keep it up to date and accurate to increase the communication within the league.

Thank you,
Ron Huntington
VP Operations CPYL
