Pre-season Tournament:
Those of you that played in the pre-season tournament are aware that we had some issues with seeding from Saturday play for Sunday games. We have researched the issue to determine what happened and what we can do to try to keep these issues from occurring in future tournaments.
There were myriad issues that contributed to the confusion. These issues range from managers signing incorrect scorecards, ‘missing’ scorecards that were not retrieved until late Saturday night, and a glitch with the excel formula when uploaded to the website.
We are confident we can overcome these issues for our Mid-Season tournament, and really hope that many teams from our league will participate in that tournament. We are putting processes in place;
- We have messaged out to the managers to ensure they really check score cards prior to signing them (for league games and tournament games); once we have a manager’s signature, that card becomes official.
- CTUA has messaged again to the umpires the importance of getting the score cards filled out correctly and getting them turned into the concession stand on time
- As our existing Tournament Director has resigned from the Board of Directors, I will be acting as Tournament Director for the next tournament (with the help of former Tournament Director, Scott Jacobs and with help from each of the age group commissioners); I will ensure that I update scores throughout the day with the goal of getting brackets posted as soon as humanly possible after the last games of the day.
One other issue we do need to address though. I understand emotions and frustrations were high due to some of the issues. The Board of Directors did receive reports of some of the parents verbally abusing the Tournament Director because of the issues. Please understand, we are volunteers doing our best to provide a safe and fun place for your kids to play baseball/softball. It is unacceptable for any parent in the league to verbally abuse anyone in our park, especially the volunteers that are there for your children. Please, in all future issues that do and will occur in this league, remember the No Tolerance Policy that you all read and signed, and please try to treat each other with respect in all manners; at the end of the day, we are all here with the same common goal; enjoyment for your kids playing this wonderful game.
What is happening at CPYL:
Now to move on to the positive; hopefully you have been noticing additions to the parks; some seen, some unseen; below are a list of things we have been doing:
- We still have construction projects going on; please help us keep your kids safe by ensuring that they are not playing on ore around any construction areas
- Upgrades to the concession stand
- New porta-johns for the new fields
- Planning on the construction of new storage building/concession stand/restrooms
- Structure to be built where current 14U field batting cage exists
- Lighting; new lighting is all automated and run by timers
- AED at the park
- We now have an AED (automated external defibrillator) in the concession stand, and all Board Members have received training on it’s use
- First aid kit; newly stocked in the concession stand
- We purchased a lightning detector for our park in the fall; no more seeing lightning and counting until we hear thunder
- We have new turf to install in batting cages an in coaches boxes on the fields; PARENTS – WE NEED YOUR HELP TO INSTALL; the week of spring break would be a great time to get out and complete this item; if interested, please contact Kristi at parent.auxiliary@cpyl.org or Russell at VP.Facilities@cpyl.org
- Sponsorship policy – anyone interested in sponsorship opportunities at the park, please contact Dale at sponsorship@cpyl.org
- Faubion parking – PLEASE help to ensure we are good neighbors; I still see MANY cars parked on the basketball courts and in the grass. Faubion has asked that we do NOT park behind their school on the basketball courts and in the grass; we are free to park in their school parking lot. If this issue does not correct itself, we will have to look at options, including towing cars that are parked in those areas
- Web forum for feedback – we have fully functional forums on our website; you may sign up for an account and you can provide and share feedback with the CPYL community
City of Cedar Park to hold Heritage festival Parade:
The City of Cedar Park - Parks & Recreation Department is holding Heritage Festival Parade on March 28th beginning at 1pm in the Heritage Oak Park vicinity (875 Quest Parkway). Please feel free to forward to anyone or any organization that you feel would be interested in having a parade entry or being a spectator. You can enter walkers with a banner or a vehicle/float advertising your organization or business.
If you would like more information including an entry form please contact us by emailing to dean@cedarparktx.us or give us a call at
401-5506 or 401-5500.
After the parade, please join us at Milburn Park - 1901 Sun Chase Blvd for the Cedar Park Heritage Festival that will be from 4 - 10 pm. We added some new and exciting events and activities to the festival.
Again, we are all here to make this park the best place in Central Texas for your kids to play baseball/softball; this is YOUR park, please help us to make sure it is an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Sincerely,
Brian P. Naab
CPYL President
